Overview
Yes, if you have comprehensive coverage and the damage was sudden and accidental, like a rock hitting your windshield. If that's the case, you will need to decide if you want to file a claim to have it repaired or replaced. If you do, you would pay your deductible.
A chip or crack that gets worse because it wasn't repaired, on the other hand, is not covered.
This applies if you have a car insurance policy with YouSet and your windshield is chipped or cracked.
What's covered
- Covered: Sudden and accidental damage, if you have comprehensive coverage
- Not covered: A small chip or crack that got worse because it wasn't promptly fixed
How to check if you have comprehensive coverage
- Sign in to your YouSet account
- Under your car policy, select Documents
- In your policy document, look for comprehensive coverage. In Quebec, it's Section B3.
Should I make a claim?
If your deductible is close to or higher than the cost of the repair, a claim may not be worth it. Any claim might also increase your price at renewal, so compare the cost of the repair with a possible price increase before you decide.
How to make a claim
If you decide to make a claim, you will need to call your insurance company's claims line. You'll find the number on our claims page, or in our How to submit a claim article.
