Overview
You can switch insurance companies through YouSet at any time, but doing it at renewal means you won't pay a cancellation fee. Start by getting a new quote and buying a policy that begins on your renewal date. Then, ask not to renew your current policy.
This applies if you have a YouSet policy and want a different insurance company.
How to switch insurance companies at renewal
- Get a quote on YouSet.ca
- Choose the policy you want, and set its start date to your renewal date
- Proceed to checkout online
- Sign in to your YouSet account, and under your current policy, select Modify Policy
- Select Cancellation and non-renewal, and follow the steps on the screen
What happens after
- A YouSet licensed broker reviews your new policy. If everything is in order, YouSet activates it and emails you your proof of insurance.
- You get an email to confirm your non-renewal within 48 hours
- Your current policy ends on your renewal date, and your new policy starts the same day
Frequently asked questions
Can I switch before my renewal date?
Yes, you can switch insurance companies at any time during your policy. If you end your current policy early, however, your current insurance company will typically charge a cancellation fee. If you paid for the year, you get back the unused part, minus the fee. See our What is the cancellation fee? article.
Will I pay for two policies at once?
No, you will not pay for two policies at once so long as your new policy starts on your renewal date and you ask not to renew your current policy.
